Conway High School
Boys varsity soccer gave up a 3-1 lead with less than 15 minutes to go and allowed Conway to tie the game 3-3 in the final three minutes of regulation. With two mid-field starters sidelined due to injury, the bluejackets managed to settle down and hold on ’til penalty kicks in overtime. Kole Bryson, James Feaser, and Luke Johnson all scored penalty kicks for Aynor. TG Boling’s kicked 4th for Aynor, but was blocked on a great save by the Conway keeper. Conway made their first two penalty kicks, but Aynor’s Noah Earnest made three incredible saves to preserve the win. He also finished with 19 saves in regulation.
Scoring began in the game first by Conway in the early minutes of the 1st half on a goal by #1 Jason Kemble. Aynor answered a few minutes later on a cross from Kole Bryson to Dylan West to Zach Gray who found the corner of the goal. The bluejackets also had several near misses to bounce off frame by Kole Bryson and Dylan West in the next few minutes. The 1st half ended with the score tied 1-1.
The 2nd half opened up and Aynor opened things up on another valiant effort and score by Zach Gray. Conway was then called for a foul in the box and Kole Bryson scored the ensuing penalty kick to lead the game 3-1 for most of the second half until injury and fatigue set in for the Jackets. After giving up a second goal coming right through the middle with 12 minutes or so remaining, Conway caught fire and exploded up and down the field. An untimely foul in the box with 3 minutes to go gave Conway a penalty kick. Noah Earnest block the shot, but Conway found the rebound and scored to tie. Aynor managed to put it away on penalty kicks after neither team was able to score during the two five minute overtime periods.
The playoffs start Tuesday of next week with a trip to Bishop England. Start time will be 6:30.
